Default KFX 450R HID Hm6 light install

This looked like a great idea so i gave it a try... imo this was Very EZ & well worth the coin...

The 1st part of this wright up came from PCMamerica I added in a few pic's to his part....

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> Quote 'PCMamerica' post='7668' date='Dec 4 2007, 01:10 AM'] Well I went and removed the light bulbs from the kfx along with the rubber thing behind the buld and unplugged the connector that is right before the bulb. Now its the rubber grommet that keeps water out of the bulb/headlight and it is actually glued to the wires.</end quote></div>

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> Quote 'PCMamerica' post='7668' date='Dec 4 2007, 01:10 AM'] I then pulled hard on the wires to get them to move. I cut them at that location and removed the wires from the rubber grommet. I hope you know what I mean.</end quote></div>

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> Quote 'PCMamerica' post='7668' date='Dec 4 2007, 01:10 AM'] You keep the pigtail that plugs in the kfx harness with the white connector. You take the black wire and strip the end off and the red wire with the black stripe is high beam positive. I took the ballast red wire and ran it to the red with black stripe and the ballast black wire to the black wire on the kfx for ground. There are 2 ballasts and 2 kfx headlight harness sockets to get ground and positive from.</end quote></div>

Not sure If he went w/ this for good but I'm going to be puttin a relay in 1st (when I do that I will post a few more pic's & the 2nd part of this install)

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> Quote 'PCMamerica' post='7668' date='Dec 4 2007, 01:10 AM']Now, the hard part is understanding what you have to do to keep the HID bulb in H6M socket. its a perfect match but if you remember, the old bulb is held in by part of that old harness socket with a spring in it. SO what I did is remove the ground from the side of the socket, and remove the spring and circuit board the hi low wires went to in the socket, mainly remover all the guts. I stretched the spring out another 1/4 inch or more. There is heat shrink tuning on the H6M bulb part where the wires go out and I removed that.</end quote></div>

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> Quote 'PCMamerica' post='7668' date='Dec 4 2007, 01:10 AM']Next you have and empty shell where the spring and wires used to be that held the old bulb in. Take the spring and put it over the wires first. The take the empty shell and add that second. i took the bulb and spring and shell and put it in the socket and locket it in place.

The old rubber grommet that the wires went thru need the old wires taken out and the new ones added thru. I actually slit all the holes together and put the wires in and used rtv silicone to keep water out. Thats how the old setup works.</end quote></div>

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> Quote 'PCMamerica' post='7668' date='Dec 4 2007, 01:10 AM']After that I put the ballasts under each front inner white fender or green if you have that machine. They arre water resistant maybe water proof I hope but either way it should be fine. It comes with adhesive tape/lining and I used that.</end quote></div>

A big thx to PCMamerica for his post on this which can be found Here

Here is a link to the Hid light's light's I have.... but I have a diffirent K

Here is the rest of the hid light install that I did, not sure if PCAmerica did his like this but again thx for his 1st part of this write up, here ya go...(be kind)

Ok in this pic (also in a few other's) you can see where I put my ballast,

I used the 2 sided tape that came w/ the kit to put both of them together, I got a relay from NAPA, I moved 1 of the middle relay's on the quad, to the right, the relay mount's buy sliding onto a tab, I turned the oem relay around, so that the relay I got from napa would slide into the slot on the oem relay & zip tied all 3 of them together...(see last pic)

I then ran a hot wire from the block, I used the inside terminal, this will need a crimp that will fit the new relay..

I then used the blot right above it that hold's the break line, for ground ( ya might want to find a better ground) Both black wires from the ballets must be crimp to this wire with a butt crimp, then another single wire crimped to that, which will need a crimp to fit the new relay..(3 wire's in one end, the other going to the relay)

The kfx has 2 pig tails 1 for each light, now that I put the new relay in, I don't need 1 of them, I just cut the wires all the same & taped them off...The other pigtail you can tape off the black wire w/yellow stripe, the other 2 red wires will need to be crimp together w/ a crimp that will fit the new relay.

Next was the in line fuse also from Napa, crimp 1 end w/ a butt crimp to the 2 red leads that come out of the primary side of the ballast. The other end will need a crimp that will fit the new relay..

The new relay will get The Hot wire from the block, ground from the brake line clamp, Pri hot/inline fuse, & the switch wire..

I then taped up the 4 connection's on the new relay & slipped the tab of the new relay into the OEM relay & zipped tied the 2 of them, to the 1st relay on the quad

This is what it looked like when I was done, & also the only pic I have of the ground wire, opps...

All this fit's under the oem plastic very well, Hope I did not forget anything...If so PM me w/ any question's ya might have....
But there ya go it might sound like a lot, but I found it pretty ez to do & well worth the 100 buck's some crimp's a little tape a few zip ties a & couple hours of your time.... GL [img]http://www.dabutcher.net/media/Pics/Quad/gifs/rasta.gif[img]
