Default trading up

I have a 2007 prairie 360 4x4, i've talked about this before...but i think i've decided to trade up to a bf 650sra. My dealer only offered me 4k for my prairie, still owe 4800 on it...and wanted to sell me a bf for 6800. I think that's an all around bad deal. My praire has about 20 hrs on it, perfect shape w/ added speedometer. I'm willing to lose a bit but to eat 2800 over a bad decision seems like quite a bit. My wife is going out of town, she's against this by the way, she won't notice the difference in the garage. What do you think i should get for a trade in and what's a good deal on the bf. the 6800 is b/c they add 300 for street legal kit...atv's are street legal in montana, could technically ride to work on the interstate. Another issue is having to pay for the tag again, which i just did for the prairie. I think i'd be happier w/ the bf, but that's a lot of dough to fork over.

any thoughts????

I have not yet made my purchase of a Brute SRA. I hope I do it sometime soon. But I have been doing some asking around on prices. The highest base price after setup and shipping but before your street legal kit (which we do not have here in IL) and taxes has been 6200. I have come across much better prices on Ebay from dealers but it would require alot of travel to pick it up.

After looking up dealer invoice prices on the net and doing some calculating I think I should be able to get a 650I before taxes for 6561.45. So I am considering doing that.

Well, after thinking and thinking and going back and forth, I'm trading up. I love my prairie but hate that feeling of having the throttle pinned down going up hill and hitting no more than 35mph. I could hit almost 50 on flat but that was full bore w/ a long straight. Looking forward to having power to spare. Wife finally gave me "approval." Much easier to live w/ a woman who okay's something like this. I'm going to pull the switcharoo saturday morning. Can't wait to get that v twin!!! Thanks for all the advice thus far...

Montana, I just purchased a New 07 Brute 650 SRA Leftover from a dealer here in Long Island (NY). Everything is pretty expensive around here! The price of the bike was $4299 ($5189.00 Total...thats including the dealer Bu!!**** (prep and Freight...) Add NYS tax ... another $600 and out the door I went.
They are still advertising another 07 BF 650 for the same price I paid ($4299)
Also purchased a 5year warranty from Kawai for $1850.00
Seems your price was really high... Go to their website and print out the ad. Bring it to your dealer and have him match it...(Google..Crazy Freddy's)

I picked up the 650 today, couple questions. It was smoking a bit, grey smoke when i was test riding it after I got home. I checked the oil and it was about 1/3" above the High mark. I pulled some oil out thinking it was just overfilled. Haven't tried it again as it's dark and cold now. 2nd question...When I put the key in and turn it on the oil pressure warning light flashes, is this normal? When I start the bike it goes away...is that normal? 3rd question...riding it around my neighborhood, as soon as the bike hit's 55mph, which feels ridiculously fast after the prairie by the way, it almost dies, automatically almost jerkingly slows down...is this b/c the bike is not sufficiently warmed up or is there some sort of governer or rev limiter I should know about? The bike has 10 miles on it, but about 8 hrs, from being pulled out and driven around the dealer's lot. Not sure if it needs more breaking in or what...the throttle limiting screw is flush back plate...so that's not limiting it.

please help me out...I really want to love this machine as i ate quite a bit on my trade in.

thanks

The smoking I can't answer, but the oil light is OK. Its like the dash indicator lights on a car/truck. When you turn the key, they light up so you know they are working. If the oil light comes on with the engine running or when riding, kill the engine immediately or it may lock up.

And you are hitting the rev limiter at 55mph. The limiter keeps the engine from blowing up. There is nothing wrong with the quad.

I would check the air filter before you ride it much and make sure no dirt is getting past the filter. And read the owners manual.

Are you saying that 55mph is pretty much top speed or is it just b/c the engine was still relatively cold? I thought these machines could hit mid 60's. I read about the oil light after posting. Hoping the smoke stops today as I removed a bit of the extra oil.

thanks for the help so far

It will get faster as it breaks in. There is nothing wrong with it.
