I am working on my son's 1991 bayou. When I try to start it using the choke it will start and run fer a second or two. I can get it to start and pretty much stay running by putting my hand over the carb, but it spits and backfires out of the tail pipe, and sometimes the carb too. Would rebuilding the carb pretty much solve this issue? Thank you for any help.

 

make sure the carb is getting gas.Pull the fuel line off of the carb and make sure the gas is flowing freely through the gas line.

 

Thanks fer the reply. The carb is getting gas, I cleaned the carb the other day. When I put it on and hooked the fuel line to it, gas was coming out of the tube coming out the bottom of the bowl. I tapped the bowl with a screw driver and it stopped.
