Default engine trouble. help?

This is what happened.

i have a 07 brute 650 with 2400 rough miles on it. Before i went to mud nats i was hearing a little bit of pinging from what sounded like the front/top of the front cylinder. i assumed the timing chain and wasn't just real concerned.

While at mud nats i kind of floated it upside down. it went dead right off, i flipped it over, drug it out, and pulled it back to camp before even trying to turn it over.

When i looked at it the next morning it was as i thought. full of water. dropped the oil and spent about 2 hours trying to get it to crank. as soon as i did i let it run for just a min and dropped the oil again. then ran it again for about 10 min then changed the oil and oil filter thinking i was good. at this time it was running fine.

That evening when we were on the trails i noticed it felt a little weaker than normal. but could have been the extra mud and it was thick anyway. not much later i noticed the engine noise i talked of earlier was much louder. this is where i believe i messed up. out with buddies drinking i decided to drive it anyway. long story short it got weaker and louder motor "pinging". Finally it gave up on me. I still think it is a cam, valve, or timing chain problem or a compination thereof. The sound didn't seem to come from the bottom end.

it still turns over but if it tries at all to "hit" at all it is super weak and not very often. has anyone experienced or know anything about this. any info is welcome.

Default engine trouble. help?

WHat did ya find out.. Buddy just brought his in, kinda had a little knock sounded like the clutch so he went home and took the clutch cover off and was running in to see if he could see anything out of the normal , and bam it locked up...
he had been experencing the pinging noise then he developed a rattle and lost power.. we pulled the front cylinder down but cylinder cam chain all looks good , the rod has some resistance on it but still tight and dont know were the rattle would come from.

so if you have any news that would be helpfull, if not i will reprt back with what i find
