I have a 96 Bayou 300. For a while now the motor has been making a ticking sound. I have read old threads that say ths is kind of a common problem with the 300 motor and it is probably the cam chain and tesioner. Could some one please tell me about how many hours it would take a shop to replace the chain and tensioner.

if you suspect that it is the cam chain being loose, just loosen the cam chain tensioner adjustment bolt then retighten it. It has a spring built into it that will apply tension to the cam chain. It is located at the left side of your atv at the base of your cylinder jug at the back, just before the jug meets the crank case. It is a thing that sticks out about 1.5 inches, held on by 2 bolts and has 1 bolt at the top. The part # in this diagram http://fiche.ronayers.com/Inde.../Camshaft(s)/Tensioner is 12049 and the bolt that you need to loosen is 92001. I would try that first. This will take less than 5 min and you can easily do it yourself. Hope that helps.
