Default Nedd some advice KQ or Prairie

Ok, I need some advice.

Looking at 2 quads to buy one used. One is an '05 King Quad 700w/1400 miles on it for 4800, the other is an '06 Prairie 700 with 200 miles for 4900.

The Prairie is SRA. I'm well versed in the differences between IRS and SRA, I'm trying to decide between thw two OVERALL. I'm looking for a machine to ride more aggressive with so I don't beat on my X2. I will be getting in to some mud and water but nothing crazy. The wife will be driving it occasionally as well. Any opinions???

I'd go w/the Prairie mainly b/c I have had 2. The P700 is a blast for powersliding & even if it isn't as smooth as the KQ, it isn't far behind. For 200 miles & that excellent VTwin motor, u won't be disappointed.

Like I said in your other thread, I'd be leaning towards the Prairie as well. But it would help to know what you mean by aggressive...

For riding aggressively i would get the Prairie. We have a '05 700p and an '05 Brute 650 sra. Love em! Plus you can't forget that v-twin power.

Nix, do what I do. If you break a part on your X2 because you've hit something, patch it. I put 3/8" aluminum on the sides of my footwells after coming down hard on a tree root and breaking some of the plastic. I was able to also patch where a log was hidden by tall grass and snagged my front plastic. But, if I had the money to spend and was going out with my son and his friends on a trash it ride, I might get a beater too. It's not as much of a problem once you've got the initial baptism into body damage. The rest of it will hold up to about any abuse the others will take.

I use the x2 for plowing, yard work, and taking my 7 year old out for slow leisurely rides. I'm looking for something I can beat on a bit. No real deep mud. Mostly fast trail riding and mild mud and mild water crossings (nothing deeper than the footpegs.

If it was deep mudding I think I would go with the King Quad. That little bit of difference in ground clearance on the rear helps in the mud. I've barely gotten through some nasty mudholes that my son's ATP gets stuck in the last 5 feet or so. I think the rear axle is the culprit. A couple more inches of clearance might get you those few extra feet. Just my .02 worth.

If it is for fast trail riding the solid axle will be better. My son's ATP is just as stable as my 2" wider X2 in the turns. The solid axle is nice for power sliding. The X2 isn't too bad for an IRS machine. The shocks are stiffer and the quad is longer. It power slides pretty good.

I had a 02 prairie ,went through everything deep mud and water, honestly I dont remember getting stuck . bought a 04 griz 660 , also a great machine, but something was missing( the v-twin power). Sold the griz and just bought a 08 brute 650 sra , I feel whole again ,it is the perfect all around quad, mud ,water and hill climbing awesome so I say go with the p-700. Good luck.

For serious mud the King should have an advantage, but for mud up to the floorboards, no difference. The Prairie can handle decent mud no problem. I'd say go with the Prairie. But try them both out, you might hate one love the other. Go with the one you feel good about.
