2003 kvf 650
#1
Hey guys. A buddy of mine has a 2003 kvf 650. He is not how I could say mechanically inclined by any stretch of the imagination. Asking me if could show him proper way of doing oil change and general maintenance. I am not familiar with this ATV and he does not have the owners manual. What is the oil capacity and where abouts is the oil filter. I have not looked at his bike yet but assuming it is a screw on oil filter like my Yamaha. Any other quirks to keep an eye on when going over this particular bike Thanks. Also if anyone has a link to a free service manual for this atv would be great. I found one before for my Yamaha but for the life of me cannot find the site where it was at.

Oil capacity is something like 2.3 qt range. It's got a dip stick so you can fill exact amount by check/fill/check.
The filter is right front of the V-twin engine below the front cyl exh pipe close to the floor pan. You can't miss it.

Yup, oil filter is a screw on type. Look underneath in front of the engine, no way to miss it. I know you can find cheap repair/schematics manuals for them on Ebay, my buddy bought one for his Twin Peaks 700(Prairie 700) and it came in handy a few times.
Its pretty funny when you walk into the dealer for a part and have to get behind the desk and use the computer schematics yourself to show them the part you need...
Heck, here you go:

</a>
Parts schematics for the '03 Prairie 650, not a maintenance manual but should help when fixing the quad...this is basically what my buddy bought on ebay, except for a Prairie 700...
Altho, some of the schematics seem to be empty, like the oil pump/filter one...but still its free, and good info for parts numbers and fixing things...if you buy one from ebay it should include everything, no empty schematics...
