You know what , I say if you got the money ,go for it .I have to say that the quads that are avalibal these days are all good and none of them are easy to work on as you really shouldn't have to if you take care of it like you should.

Good quads. Really an LTZ 400 with different plastic and graphics.
If it needs a rebuild, I hope you're getting it cheap. Not hard to rebuild, but it can get expensive, quick.
What year is it?

Besides the 400ex the ltz400 was/is the only other 400 out there...... offered by Arctic Cat, Kawasaki, and Suzuki. If you put any stock at all in the wrag shoot outs the Z400 consistantly out performs the only other 400(ex) on the market......as told by the wrags I mean. If you can get a deal on one you can't go wrong as long as it wasn't a "heavily abused" machine.
I don't know what year you are looking at but the newer ones, I think from 04 or 05 on, the ones that have the ressy front suspension is said to be on par with the 450's for suspension and handling. That is what the wrags are saying anyway.
Good luck

2005 and up got the good suspension and new cams and carb........ they were a good punch quicker then the 2004, and the front suspension is very good. If the deal is good you cannot go wrong unless the thing is beaten hard.... in which case you'd better get it really cheap because it will cost a good chunk of cash to rebuild everything....DOHC engines can get expensive if a lot is broken....

i would say the 400 is a good quad. i had a 03 for 3 years and loved it. the only problem i had was my floats kept getting stuck in the carb. i sent it back to kawasaki twice and nothing got fixed. but i would just mess with it and within 5 minutes it would fix itself. i loved the handling and the power. i caould stand it up in every gear and climb every hill that raptors and 450's were climbin. i say Do It!
