Default belt light will not reset

I have tried to reset the belt light on a Kawasaki 700 v-twin. The switch was set to the on position already. I followed the steps about reversing the black and gray plugs and the light still flashes. I think there is another problem but don't know where to start. Any ideas?

Post the exact steps you took. Maybe some of us can tell you what went wrong.

Default belt light will not reset

First let Me give a little history on this atv. It was sunk and missing for a few days. It isn't mine so I'm not sure how long it was under water. It was taken to the dealer and they changed all the fluids and it ran fine for a few days or weeks. When it was brought to Me it would only run with the choke on and not idle at all. I found that it was over full on oil. I figure the carbs had flooded and ran gas into the oil. I cleaned both carbs and changed the oil. It cranks and idles fine but starts misfiring at about half throttle like a rev limiter is kicking in. I read on here about the belt light and limp back mode so I think that is My problem now. The belt light has been on the entire time i have been working on it. I also installed new sparkplugs. What I did to reset the light was
1. removed belt cover and checked switch. It was set to the on position( towards rear of bike)
2. unplugged the black and the grey plug located near the fuel pitcock
3. plugged black to grey and grey to black
4. turned key on. light was flashing quickly
5. unplugged wire to belt switch. light started flashing slowly
6. let flash for at least 5 seconds. more like a minute
7. turned off key
8. reconnected wire back on original positions
I noticed today that the 4 wheel light will not come on also. Could this be related. Thanks for any help.

Default belt light will not reset

The bike isn't mine. The owner crossed a road and when He started back the road was flooded. They tried to cross but Him and a kid or two were forced to bail off and swim. It was running water and They couldn't find the bike. A day or so later someone suggested looking upstream because the water swirled at that location and They finally found it.

Thanks Hayashi. The light is flashing. I don't think the engine brake actuator is working. I pulled the cover on the small electric motor and it was corroded really bad. the local Kawasaki shop said They thought that would keep the belt light from resetting. I tried the exact steps You recommended but no luck. Thanks again.

Default belt light will not reset

Engine brake actuator motor has nothing to do with the belt light.

Two possibilities for belt light not resetting.
1) Blown igniter - Try another igniter if avail.
2) Open circuit in belt light switch. It should be NORMALLY closed. For this test, run a wire in place of the switch and try resetting the light again.

I checked the belt switch on the cover with a volt meter. It seems to be working. A complete circuit when on and open when off. The igniter must be blown. Thanks for the help.

anybody no why my brute force 650 (2005) will 1. Not reset the bellt light after proper steps taken, 2. Stay in limp mode after the same thing.
