87 mojave comp. help
#1
bought a 87 mojave which needed a carb rebuild. did it ran great and very powerful for about 10 hours. then didnt want to start unless you popped it and only ran crappy for a little while. then it just stopped running. checked the compression at it was about 50 psi. manual says it needs at least 70. according to the manual its either rings, valves or head gasket. they say a quick check is to put a teaspoon of oil in the sparkplug hole and check it again. if comp raises then its the rings. which it did. so i ordered new rings. when i pulled the top end off i noticed the rings were stuck but they looked to be not too worn plus the cylinder looked good too. when the new rings came i honed the cylinder correctly and installed the rings. put it all back together with the timing correctly done.the compression only went up 10 more psi. i have plenty of spark and plenty of gas. is there something im missing ? the compression release devise seems to be ok too. now when i put the teaspoon of oil in the sparkplug hole it goes up again. maybe the cylinder is not as good as i thought . ????????????????????????
