2000 Kawasaki KVF400 4x4 exhaust overheating
#1
I have a 2000 KVF 400 4x4 and after a short amount of use the exhaust overheats. It gets so hot that the fenders have began to melt. Does anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?

if its more your heared pipe then you are jetted too lean. you really need to rejet the main, and at the least adjust your pilot jet richer. this is provided there is nothing blocking your exhaust. it would also be a good idea to clean your carb. just get in the bowl and hose it down with carb cleaner. het the jets especially well!
you will have to buy a jet kit, but the pilot jet you can do yourself. the pilot jet is located on the bottom of the carb, outside the carb bowl, twords the engine. its a small brass skrew. if its a mikuni carb then skrew the pilot IN 1/4 turn at a time. if its a khein carb you skrew the pilot OUT 1/4 turn at a time. sorry i dont know off hand if the 400 has a mikuni or khein...
i hopr this helps your problem
