Bayou 250 starting problems
#1
Just bought a 2003 Bayou 250. Engine would turn over but was a little sluggish at times. Rode for a while stopping and starting throughout the day - no problems. Then it started getting sluggish again when trying to start. Now the solonoid switch just clicks, no engine turnover at all. I can still start it and run with the pull start.
1. New battery holding 12.8 volt charge.
2. Lights all work bright, etc.
3. Tried jumping poles on solonoid but it still just clicks.
4. Traced wires, took them apart, cleaned connections and still just clicks.
5. Will pull the starter motor tomorrow.
Any suggestions on what to do before I pay $70 bucks an hour at the shop?
Thanks,
Michael

put a charger on the battery overnight, 12.8v isnt super for a new battery, but wound not be your problem. buy a new cylinoid and starter moter. since you tried jum ping the cylinoid and no luck its probably the starter itself

starter is out.. probably the brushes, but its out...
can you pull start it?
if you tried jumping straight from battery, it mean that the starter is done... might be rebuildable, but get another one in hand.. about 100 bucks on ebay, and a DIY job

Thanks guys. Replaced the starter and it fired right up! It starts so much easier now and with a lot more power. First time I ever did anything like this but it was easy.
Take care and thanks again,
Michael
