Bad ticking in top end 05' bruteforce
#1
Has anyone ever experienced a bad ticking when cold on a 05 bruteforce? IT seems to get better when warm, i've checked the valve clearance at least 5 times to no avail.....i'm wondering what else it could be, drives me nut, but still seems to run ok...Anyone give me some idea's? Appreciate it much guys!

What valve clearance did you set at?
Other possibilities are:
> Worn out valve seats on the head
> Worn out cam lobes.
> Stretched cam chains, most likely the intermediate one. But it can be the top ones (one for each cylinder) also. Below photo shows the int. chain in the middle with the automatic tensioner which could be maxed out if the chain is badly worn out. One may ask, why does the noise go away after warming up. That could be simply because heat expands the metal and clearance gets tightened up.

Appreciate the help here man. As far as clearance, I've taken it wayyy below spec's and still there.....I only have about 3,000 miles, do you think the chainns or tensioners could be worn out?

You don't normally set the clearance below spec. You should set WITHIN the spec, but on BF preferably at upper side of the spec because it would get tighten up. Before you go any further, you MUST reset to the clearance.
As for the cam chain, it can wear out within 3000 or 300 miles depending how much dirt you sucked in.
Readjust your valve clearance before anything else.
