Its not hard, just intimadating.. basically, its pulling the carb, doing 10 mins of work, and putting the carb back in. if you have ever rebuilt a carb, its easy.
if you haven't, i DO suggest you find a local guy, give him a 50, and ask him to TEACH you how to do this. Generally, I'll teach/show anyone how to maintain their bikes, but I aint a pro, just practiced

Actually jeffeosso, the Z400/KFX/DVX has a very restricitve stock silencer, you will see a very noticeable power increase even with a 'quiet' type slip on. Yes, it will be louder than stock, but still well within legal dB limits. Kawibeatshonda, with your UNI, rejet, and a slip on , you will see a nice increase in bottom end, and a bit more top end wind out, with the easier breathing. Yoshimura makes a good slip on, FMF is always a good choice, just look for the 'trail' or 'quiet core' types, and you will not get rocks thrown at you by angry hikers.

I didn't say he wouldn't see an increase in power by $$$$pending on exhaust, I said he would have more bang for the buck in changing the filter, jets, and needle (dynopack).
Lets face it, uni filter and dynopack is what, 100 bucks delivered and a FULL PIPE is closer to what, 350/400 when you take shipping into it?
a slip on? sure,it sounds better, but without rejetting and a good airfilter, it won't gain MUCH, as the pipe is still there.
