ATV Ban
#1
I live in Ogden, NY. The following is an quote from the proposed ban being voted on Wed. 5-27-09...
"It shall be unlawful to operate or for the owner to permit the operation of any
type of motor-driven vehicles or conveyances, including but not limited to twowheeled
vehicles known as “minibikes,” trailbikes” and “motorcycles,” three or
four-wheeled vehicles known as “ATV’s” or ATC’s” or the like and fourwheeled
motor vehicles known as “go-carts” and “no-wheeled vehicles,” such
as but not limited to snowmobiles and limited-use vehicles as defined in Article
1 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, under the following circumstances."
I wont be able to use my atv to hunt or plow my driveway with anymore!
Here's a link to their site (read it for yourself):

If you read down a little further in the 'Under the Following circumstances' section it says:
'The minimum distances herein provided for shall not
apply when vehicles are being used for farming, lawn and
gardening purposes, or property maintenance; however, all
other restrictions shall apply.'
Basically, if you use it for lawn, garden or property maintenance on your own property, you are not bound by this restriciton.
As for hunting, as long as you are 500 ft from the property line, or have written permission of the neighbor, you are good.
Still seems like a BS law, but you should be able to work with it. Just make sure you hunt outside the town limits (I suspect you would anyway - shudder to think what a miss might do inside town/city limits...).

Just finised reading the notice and found this:

vehicles known as “minibikes,” trailbikes” and “motorcycles,”
Motorcycles?? Does that mean street bikes too? It does'nt spacificaly exclude street bikes in the proposed law. Hmmm...

It's a quarter mile drive down the road to the trail that leads to the land I hunt on. I'm not sure how it will work out but I will definiately test it. All summer long tractors and lawnmowers from the three golf courses around me use the road to go from course to course, but according to the law my atv would be illegal. Nonsense!
