kfx cylinder head
#1
I have an 06 kfx400 that i ran low on oil...the cam ate into the cam journal... should i buy a new head and slap it on there or will there be millions of shavings down in the crankcase?... basically should get the head or a new engine all together? thanks.

I have had it apart enough to know the cam and journal are shot and cannot be machined. I dont know how/dont want to split the cases... a new head is $700 minus cams/valves ect. from the dealer... and a complete engine is 900-1400 that is why i question just getting a new one all together

When you say new, do you mean new from the factory, or a used one?
If it's used, I'd splitting the case on that just to be sure I didn't put a bad motor in. So from that standpoint, splitting the old one doesn't seem bad.
But if it's new, and affordable, then yeah, just drop in a new motor.
