I had to take my Lakota into the dealer the other day to replace the auto clutch adjust screw that I found was stripped. I have a ride coming in a couple weeks and knew I didn't have the time to replace it for the ride. I went to adjust it and after the adjustment went to tighten up the holding nut and it wouldn't tighten. The dealer called today informing me that 1 hour labor to replace the screw. I already had the parts that I thought it would be with all intention to replace it myself. Work's got busy and I had to swap around to get the day off for the ride. They feared the clutch cover could be stripped. This did not turn out to be the case, I had gotten all necessary parts. They told me that it is now adjusted properly, but the clutch plates and all appear to be worn out. When they took it for a test ride the mechanic said it slipped bad at half throttle. He also said it didn't want to downshift either. I told him it didn't do that when I brought it in. He just said he was suprised but with the clutch adjusted properly they will need to replace fibers and steels. He said the springs are okay. I'm not sure what to think. I am not real familiar with the way one of these clutches goes together, and works for that matter. The dealer charges $55/hr and a total for the screw and clutch, labor and parts, all totalled up is $269.13. Yes I was a dum@$$ and rode knowing the clutch screw is stripped and not adjustable. Couldn't turn down my buddies idea to go riding even though I knew better. The mechanic asked me what all I towed. He says you usually see wear like this when towing a lot of heavy loads. I advised him that I don't tow anything but I rode knowing it was messed up. He said that is prob. what did it. The machine seemed to shift okay. I was hard at times and everyonce in awhile would drop the gear. I knew it needed adjustment. I bought it in 10/99. I do not ride it everyday, usually 1 day on the weekend. All day adventures usually though. That is when I decided to go ahead and take it in. What do you all think?

Stebob-can't be of any help to you on this one.I adjusted mine 2 days ago for the 3rd time.As i was tightening that nut the fear of stripping it entered my mind.Seemed to be of soft metal.I assume that it is the same set-up on the Bayou's also.I guess everybody should be careful when they retighten the nut back down.Sorry about your troubles.
