Yeah, I like the Replay a lot. I was shooting with a Flip Video mounted to the quad for a long time. (and still do, I use both). The Replay takes as good a video as the Flip. The nice thing about the Replay is that it is so small. Seems to be designed with a lot of thought. It signals confirmation with beeps and vibrations when turn it on and start or stop filming. That is handy when its mounted to the helmet and you are turning it on by feel.

Here is a night ride I took with it.

Its pretty boring video but you can see how it does at night. I havent uploaded any daytime videos with it yet cuz I ride at night so much. The day time videos on my youtube page are all from the Flip Video.

That sounds like a good name for your ride area. I am jealous, its seems you have a lot of interesting ride areas there.

Making a map for the neighborhood is a great project. I use a Garmin Montana 600, myself. Having a GPS gives us a lot more freedom to ride, because we can always use it to find our way back home without having to memorize our way in, lol.

Excellent video! Superb frame rate!

I must have a mounted camera now!

I have been wanting to make a map of the trails for a while..its one thing to have it in gps but another to have a sort of almost cartoonized type map in your hand.

I get on google earth alot and try to find new areas to explore without trespassing or having to cross roads.

all of this connects to our subdivision so I never have to trailer the atv anywhere. we have miles and miles of trails now.

here are a few of my crappy videos using my canon still cam wrapped in a ziplock bag

Me rockin the Bayou in an abandoned subdivision near the house.

These tires are perfect for the Bayou, they look good and perform excellent.

Default More mods to the bayou, camera mount, spider sticks, new seat and a sweet knife

I will divide these into 4 separate posts, providing as much info and links where I can.

first up....

SPIDER STICKS
some folks call them "web catchers".

I freek the EFF out when I run into a big leathery spider hanging out across the trails...I scream like a little girl and get off the atv run away.

here is an example of this mod where i got the original idea.

and here it is on the Bayou

How it was built:

I used two 2ft CB antennas made of black fiberglass that I bought at Frys Electronics for about $12 each.
with the mounts they are about 30 inches tall...they could be at leadt 6-8 inches tall to be the perfect size.

however I could not find a 3ft antenna that was suitable...and 4ft was way to big.

I also added spring mounts for each antenna so they would bend if going under branches and obstacles. The springs were about $8 each.

(I should have gotten the heavy duty springs as these tend to wobble a little too much)

I also coated the entire spring in 1.5 inch black heat shrink tubing to cover all the chrome..the tubing also stiffened up the springs a little. I though about adding a few tack welds to the springs to stiffen them up, but the heat tubing seems to keep them in place.

I mounted them to the Bayou using a regular bolt and a ribbed lock washer that I got at home depot...I welded a small little square of steel about 1.5" x 1.5" into a 90 degree corner of where the tubes meet on the front rack. Them welded the bolt to the steel...after it cooled I ground down the welds and filled the edges and gaps with JB weld.

once everything was cool and the jb weld had cured, I painted the mounts with rustoleum rattle can truck bed liner to match the rack.

The bolts allow for the sticks to be removed easily and the lock washers allow for them to stay on with just hand tightening.

when remove from the bike, they store under the gun rack with some rubber snubbers.

Default New seat for the Bayou!

This was my second attempt at recovering the seat for the bayou..originally I wanted to add a gel pad and better foam, but I get impatient waiting for things to ship....so I just went ahead and recovered the seat.

I bought Marine grade outdoor vinyl from Hancock Fabrics, Joanne fabrics also had similar materials.

I bought 1.5 yards for about 23.00 on sale.

The color is not quite a flat black but not shiny either.
it has a leather grain pattern on it that become more pronounced as it is stretched.

Before:

After:

recovering was very easy, although confusing at first.

I used this website as a guide
Modify Seat

and also search Youtube for a few videos.
this one helped since he went slow and documented the whole thing:

I used t50 staples and a cheap electric staple gun. No glue and no heat gun...although it was about 99 degrees in my garage that day.

After removing the old cover and staples, I noticed the foam was a bit damp so I let it dry in the sun for a few hours.

I cut out a pattern that was about 4 inches too big on each side of the seat so I wouldnt run short. I used the old cover as a guide.

Then I lightly tacked the new vinyl on the rear and the front of the seat..and stretched to across the base of the curve where the seat's front starts to rise.

it took me dang an hour to figure this out. I got so frustrated because the vinyl just wouldn't cooperate! I had to go back and watch the videos again and re-read the guide.

but once I had it stretched tight on the curve everything else was done in 30 minutes.

it took another 30 minutes to lightly stretch and pull out the wrinkles evenly.

You don't want to stretch the vinyl to the max as it will warp the frame of the seat..pulling the top of the seat backwards away from the tank.

If this happens to you...remove a few staple and re-adjust it will relax a little once on the bike after a few days

and the sun will give it a little stretch too.

after it was tight and wrinkle free, I installed on the bike.

I waited a couple days to trim the excess off and add the final staples in case I needed to stretch it more...but I did not.

Then I applied a coat of UV protectant..the non-slip matte finish kind in the green bottle (basically its just a flat finish armour-all that you buy at walmart)

I also was worried about the vinyl ripping around the staples for some reason so I added some dabs of vinyl glue to the corners and high stress areas.

here is the final result:

Default Trail camera ACTION

Ever since the earlier posts on this topic about the trail cam...I had to have one.

But I realized that I also needed a GPS and a regular camera as well.
so really I needed an "all in one" device.

I had an old 16gb iphone 3gs laying around.
I cleaned out the phone and removed all of the apps except for a few apps like gps, Trimble Outdoor Navigator (a pretty slick trail mapper), compass and some video camera apps and of course dropbox.

I dont have cell service on this phone but GPS works just fine..and I download everything via wifi when at home.

The mapping apps are designed not to need a 3g signal to work.

My buddy has an account with Otterbox for his work phones so he got me a brand new Otterbox for free.

now I set out to find a proper mount....

I tried all sorts of stuff you find a walmart and mounts for other devices like Garmins and even camera mounts for the handle bars of mountain bikes.

all of them had too much shake or they were really cheap.

Then I ran into a RAM MOUNT camera mount at Bass Pro Shops..it was $59 PERFECT..but way too spendy for my project.

I ran a search on craigslist and found almost the same mount for $15 from a guy selling his motorcyle.

unfortunate it had a clip on it for a garmin...so I went to the RAM MOUNTS website and ordered an X-mount designed for mounting smartphones on handlebars...and it was a direct compatible bolt on for the ram mount i just bought. It cost about $25 on Amazon.

RAM Cell Phone Mount l Smartphone Mount l iPhone Mount

It will fit any smartphone, so if you have an old touch screen smartphone lying around, just get the otter box and a decent mount and you'll have an all in one ATV camera and GPS mapping device.

I also added a heavy duty outdoor 12v accessory charger to the Bayou.
cost about 6 bucks at walmart, drilled a hole and wired it up in about 30 minutes. (I had added a fuse block a while back and it makes adding electronics very easy.)

It looks like this one but has an all weather rubber cap..it was in the auto section..but cant find a link on the site, sorry...

Here is mine:...no videos to post yet, but they look decent!

Default My new Stabby!

Previously I had a boot knife attached on the the pistol holster on the Bayou..it started to get loose and the knife fell out a few times.

That knife has been with me for years...and I did not want to lose it, I couldnt find another sheath that I felt would be secure.

so I opted for a new knife altogether.

I wanted something thick and heavy duty..something that I could chop, use as a pry bar and not care if it was scratched or damaged, it needed to be easily accessible on the atv.

but it had to be strong...and of course affordable.

Having been a long time customer at Smokey Mountain Knife Works..I tried there first and found a few I liked...Many were out of my price range.

then I ran across a knife called the Cold Steel GI Tanto, I have always trusted Cold Steel as that's who built our original fighting knives.

but usually Cold Steel products are expensive...however..this item was only $27 and got good reviews.

I did not buy from Amazon though...ended picking it up at a local gun show over the weekend for $30

It was alot bigger than I expected and was becoming difficult to store on the atv.

so my buddy said.."just mount'er to the fender"...dam good idea!

Its mounted using some black and stainless set screws and lock washers, with rubber washers keep it from rattling.

since its a solid molded case..the knife really locks into place.

behold.....my new stabby.
