What makes the CDI go out??? Regulator??

What makes the CDI go out??? Regulator??
OK I have a 92 Bayou 300.
I have my CDI box out and made resistance measurements IAW the manual. Nothing checked correct except the short from the blk/wht to blk/wht. So accordingly I figure i will order one. The issue is what else should I replace that may have made it go out. My Ignition Coil checked bad...replaced it and still won't start up.
