Default Mojave carb question

I'm cleaning the carb on the mo and was wondering if as long as I don't mess with the float tang I should'nt have to re set the float right? This is the first time the carb has been removed for cleaning. (It's an '03) I guess draining the bowl after every ride or when the bike is going to sit has paid off. The carb was really clean besides the outside of it. I did however find the pilot air screw had a little tiny piece gunk or a gummy-like substance on the very tip...prob. why it developed a little idle skip. Other than that the bike ran perfect..
