Is it normal for engine oil to be it's normal brownish/tan color then right when you pour it in the engine and turn the engine a few times it turns black? I think that this might partly contribute to the oil only being changed twice a year(quad is ridden everyday for an hour). I would think it would need to be changed about once a month since it runs at such high RPM and is air cooled.... My dad thinks that because it's a small motor it only needs to be changed twice a year max, oh yea, it still has the oil filter from 2 yrs ago. BUt I finally changed that, and the oil still turns black, what now?

I am looking at the Kawasaki service manual for the klf220 "bayou", they recommend the oil and filter be changed every 90 days under regular use.
More ofter in mud, sand or harsh conditions. They don't say what more often is. I would hate to argue with the engineers that designed the engine or for that matter my dad either.

I change the oil in my quads every 45 days regardless of how much they have been ridden. It only cost me about 10.oo dollars each using syth. oil. I usually order oil filters 6 at a time. As i am changing the oil i give the machines a look over.My kawaski's do not hold much oil and the temp. around here gets preety hot, seems like cheap insurance to me.
