Default Aftermarket Gauges

Has anyone tried to use aftermarket gauges on a Prairie 360. The engine is air cooled with an oil cooler so I'm thinking oil temp., oil pressure, and volts. The book says oil temps go as high as 240F and pressure should be 24psi @ 5K RPM. Most of the gauge manufactures make an oil temp that reads 300F and pressure that top at 80 psi. What do y'all think???

Okay so I don't trust idiot lights. Gauges can tell you before a problem gets bad; idiot lights tell you after the fact.

So what do ya’ll think mechanical or electronic??? I’m looken at the 2 1/6” 3 gauge pod from Glow Shift gauges and mount it on the fender.

The voltmeter hookup is a no brainer.

It looks like oil pressure can be picked up from the idiot light switch. Possibly with a T so the idiot light isn't disabled.

I haven’t found a good place for the oil temp pick up yet. The issue is that both the electronic and mechanical gauges have a thermocouple and I’m not sure where it can fit.

Any and all comments welcome

Thanks
Nick

I would not install a mechanical type sensor for oil pressure. It's just too risky and it can do more harms than goods like leaking.

Thanks Hayashi; I was leaning tward electronic. The price difference isn't that much just the cost of the sending unit.

Any ideas on the temp gauge???

i have seen a few people put a temp sending unit in the oil drain plugs spot .. dont know how accurate that would be.

Check out :: KOSO NORTH AMERICA :: Gauges, LED bars, Accessories for Motorcycles, ATV, Cars, Scooters and snowmobile

They have several types of great digital guages for atv and cycles.

Thanks for the input wheily and tramp.

The Prairie has a skid plate protecting the bottom of the engine. Not sure if it's welded or bolted to the frame or if theirs room for the censer. And like you wheily I'm not sure how accurate it would be. I'd like to pull temp from where the idot light temp censer is or the line going to the oil cooler.

Tramp, those are nice looken gauges but a bit pricey for my wallet. Also I didn't see any temp gauges that go above 250F. The Prairie's running temp is like 248F.
