ok here's an update, i just pulled the clutch cover off and to me everything looks great, although the secondary clutch gear/basket does have slack in it, but if this was the cause of the tick i hear wouldn't it go away when i accelerate? the sound that i am hearing is still present with a load on the motor. i am thinking that it is something else now, any suggestions are welcome.

I also have the exact same noise coming from my 89 KLF 300, it starts on the button, and generally runs sweet as a nut. But the noise seems to start a couple of minutes after the quad has been started. The noise is really starting to bug me now.
I've only recently bought the quad and when i drained the oil it had just over 5 litres of oil in it !!! .. Now i know too much oil also has adverse effects on the engine. I've replaced the oil with 1.7 litres as it says on the engine casing and im wondering maybe I haven't put enough in.?? ..
It also seems to Bog down when revving, but as stupid as it sounds I can't find the mixture screw on the carb? So any help with my problems would be greatly appreciated.
