Hi,
I have a 86 bayou 185 my son was driving last night and it quit. After towing him home and looking at it there is no spark. I changed plugs and still nothing. I also swapped out coils with one that I know works and still no spark. That pretty much narrows it down to either the stator or the CDI correct? I know these CDI's are pretty expensive, and hard to come by, so I was hoping someone could tell me how to troubleshoot to find out if the problem is the stator or the CDI.

doing some more checking into this I do not get any voltage at the coil. There is a wire that appears to lead to the cdi box. I dont get any voltage with the switch on or trying to start the quad. Tracing voltage there are 2 wires from rectifier to the magneto that have voltage only when the motor is turning over with electric start. however there are 2 dark wires that run from magneto/stator to cdi box that never have voltage.
