Default Seeing alot about the valves on the KFX400

What do I need to do to avoid any serious issues with my baby concerning the valves? I am starting to hear a slight tick from the head area. Mine is an 06. I have had mine for about 8 months and love this thing to death.

I also need a good maintenance chart for this puppy so I know what I need to replace and adjust. My chain is getting slightly slack and the rear rotor squeals.

Thanks

IMO get an oem service manual, this atv has shim type value adjustment so that mean cam got to be removed to re shim most of the time, also you have to loosen cam chain tenisoner to release chain enuff to remove chain off cam sprocket...

Definitely get a service manual. In that it should have a chart on what size shims you'll need to use when you make the adjustment. It's a little more complicated than than old spring type valves, so you want to make sure you have it done right the first time.

Thanks for the information from both of you. I like the OHC style of this engine. I play with the DOHC and SOHC on the Ford 4.6. I hope I have the ability to work on this. (I really do get nervous working on my equipment)

They really are not to bad if you have a service manuel I did my 2004 a couple times just make sure you use a toruqe wrench to get the cap bolts to the correct toruqe spec otherwise it throughs off the clearance and defeats the purpose of adjusting the valves just a heads up.
