As long as you are not going in any water, you can drill a bunch of holes in the cover to let the air staight into the filter instead of coming through all the tubes from in front of the handle bars.

If you don't go through alot of water, take off the airbox and get either a K&N or UNI pod filter and mount it directly to the carb.

Do like jd250r suggest. Put a K&N clamp on filter directly on the carb and if you like to ride in mud and water that is no more than about a foot deep get one of the new "water repelant" outerwear prefilters. This setup seems to work well for me on the two mojaves i run. The stock air box is much lower and in a vulnerable location to cut holes in it. If you do this, be very carefull around mud and water. The location of a clamp on filter is almost as high as the stock intake snorkle which is under the headlight. One more thing, get the 3 1/2 x 4 k&n that has a angle to it, it will help clear the seat/fender assy.
