my buddy just scored the mojave! Brand new 2001 model. anything to look out for or cheap performance mods. one thing, it was hard to start at the begining, then finally when warmed up, it was not problem. the dealer started it up cold on the first kick, we on the other hand took up to 30 minutes! Is there a special technique or is rejetting needed? we had the choke on the max postition. other than that, my buddy is pretty stoked about the machine.
thanks in advance for any help.

Congratulations! I also have a '01 Mojave. Don't worry about the hard starting, mine was difficult to start even at the dealership before I loaded it into my truck. It gets easier and easier to start as you put the hours on it. Mine took like almost ten kicks to start at the dealership and now it takes one to three kicks, even after it has been flipped upside down. Just last night I was screwing around after I brought it out of a heated garage and it started at full choke with me hardly even putting any force on the kick start lever. I'm at sealevel and 20-30 degrees and my Mojave starts and runs great. I wouldn't worry about rejetting unless you are up in altitude. My procedure includes slowly kicking the engine through 1 or 2 kicks with the choke fully on and then kicking it over like I mean it. I shut my gas off whenever it is not running as part of my procedure. My brother used to have a '94 Mojave that was kind of a pain to start. I have not experienced that yet with mine. Make sure you change your oil at 10 hours as the manual recommends since mine was pretty dirty and that was just from riding in snow without any dust.

My friend had a 88 mojave and the first couple times we tried to start it it took allot of kicks on full choke, when i put the choke down below half way it seemed to start a lot easier.

This really does not have anything to do with the mojave, but, when I went to buy my blaster the guy I bought it from sat down and started it up first kick, so I sit on it kick for like 5 minutes and couldnt get it started, he sits on it again and it fires right up again... anyways I bought it and when I got home I couldnt get it started for the life of me I was kicking my leg off holding the gas wide open, then I said what the heck "Ill try to kick it over easy without touching the gas" did it and it fired right up! I have no idea why, I always thought the harder you kick the more likley it is to start, but not this thing, kind of odd... And to this day its like that, it can sit for a week in the freezing cold and you sit on it, pull the choke, and hardly kick it without touching the gas and it ALWAYS fires right up. Its probally just my machine but I figured Id post my story.

Each bike needs to be kicked over differently. Sometimes the choke is your enemy. You'll need to experiment with how you kick it to get it to work. Try with choke, without, half choke. Thumb Throttle full, half, off. Try only giving it throttle right at the end of the kick. If you've been kicking it a bunch of times while giving thumb throttle, you've probably flooded the engine. So kick it a few times without and it may just start up. Once you learn how the bike needs to be kicked over, you'll start it on the first kick. Also, as mentioned before, try slowly turning the engine over a couple of times to sort of 'wet' the cylinder. I'm not sure if this actually helps, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Great , Mojave lives on .

I had a 88 Mojave

Like everyone said , speed & hardness is not usually the factor . a SMOOOOOOOTH kic is needed.

Also dont assume the choke has 2 be ALL the way either .

"Usually" u do not have 2 give it gas either .

Yes , each kick start model of atv is different. when i had buddys of mine try 2 start my Mojave from their Blaster or whatever , they had a hard time . Each machine has a technique so 2 speak .

Enjoy the Mojave , i miss mine

luv u all [ ....... dont worry i am a chick ]
