This things sits more than it is ridden. A friend leaves it with me during the winter and I look after it for him. I try to start it and ride it about once a month to keep from having so many problems but sometimes I forget.

If it sits for longer than a month or so it has no spark. You can crank and crank and it will have no spark for a while. Then about the time the battery is getting weak it will spark and once your get spark it will start almost instantly.

After it starts it will not give any more problems. You can ride it for hours and a as long as you ride it on a regular basis it does not have a problem. He rides it all summer no problem because it is ridden almost every weekend.

Let it sit for a month and no spark for a while. This is weird. I have been an ATV mechanic for years mostly on Polaris but I have never seen anything like this.

He bought it from a friend who had it stored for a long time. It was like new when he got it. I cleaned the carb put in a new battery and it was good to go.

 

Found the problem. Dirty connection on one of the wires plugging into the coil.
