2012 Brute
#1
Since the new Brute Force has so many changes done to it, I would like to begin a topic on people that own one or have first hand knowledge of someone who does to list any problems that may begin to surface. Also would like to hear good things on the machine compared to the old. I only have had mine a few weeks now and have 400 km's but I am sure there are people out there who have way more.
Here is a start on my new Brute.
The new Air box design seems to work very well at keeping out water. I have gone through some fairly deep water holes well up over the floorboards and no water has gotten into the Airbox or CVT. Also tried hitting some deep puddles fast to get splash and still no water got in. Tried running the hose over the Air box cover when washing the machine and let it run over the front of the cover and it remained dry as a bone inside. Seems to be very well protected now.
The new engine is incredibly torquee...scary power.
The EPS system works very well. I like the fact that you do not have to change settings on it unlike an Outlander with Min, Med and Max.
The new battery cover is difficult to remove. After you get the screws off the front and rear, you have to pull it up very hard to get it over the Belt reset.
The new storage bin on the front racks is great except that the small latch feels cheap and may break at some point. Always forgetting which way to turn it also to lock. Gets jammed sometimes.

love that avatar!
I can't even consider a BF until they change that horrible & annoying front diff lock setup. Either lock it in, or unlock it- there's no need for a partially locked front diff
did they get rid of that annoying belt toggle trip switch under the cvt yet and the "limp home mode" jumper under the seat?
the 05 & 06 BF's were just full of bad design ideas- hoping they upgraded those problem areas in the new BF 750's.

Still the same belt reset as before. However I did ask my dealer about that and he said they had fixed that issue in 2009. Time will tell and I will post all things good and bad as they happen on my machine.
I'll tell you one thing though. The engine torque is incredibly powerful, instant and constant throughout.

Yup they still have the same set up for the Diff Lock lever. Would be nice if they had a Visco style lock like an Outlander but it doesn't bug me.

I had that toggle trip on me at least a half dozen times putting me in limp home mode- the atv only had maybe 300 miles on it and the dealer checked the belt- said all was fine- couldn't figure out why it kept tripping.
yea- the 750i twin has some nice torque on the bottom end. I had some white knuckle moments. Not as much as my 09 800 outlander, but pretty damn close.
Looks like they addressed a lot of those issues with the 2012 BF 750's-

17A, I agree with you on the front storage box. When I first looked at the latch system I thought it was broken or there was a piece missing. I purchased the "optional" waterproof seal for the front storage box (something that should have been included). It costs around $7.00. After installing that it is extremely hard to close the cover enough to latch it. I think the single headlights on each side, no rear fender splash guards, and cheaper looking tail light were all used to keep manufacturing costs down so they could implement the other improvements they did while keeping costs down. Overall I really like the 2012 Brute. I think it still needs some minor tweaks, but nothing that's a deal breaker. As far as power and speed it has all I need in an ATV. If I had more I'd use more and probably just kill myself.

I'll keep an eye on that. Mine seems to run nice and cool so far. The fan rarely comes on. One of the updates was a larger rad and hoses. They also moved the rad a little higher.
