03 KFX 400 broken case weld or replace?
#1
Okay, I picked up this quad for $550. It came with a title so all is good to go in that arena. I got several sets of tires and some aftermarket items with it as well. The problem is the chain got thrown and busted the case and it ran out of oil. I pulled the upper end and the cylinder and piston look great. This quad ran about a year before this happened then it was put in the garage and stored. My question, can this be welded? Would it be better to replace the bottom end? Looks like a straight forward fix. I have a friend that TIG welds for a living and he is willing to do it.
The engine is out of the quad but do the cases need to be split? I found one piece of the break, but there is still a dime size piece missing and part of the rim that surrounds the shifter. It does not appear that this is a high stress area. Am I wrong? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
