If worked on carb and now it's worse, time to go back into carb and go thru everything again.

Berrymans dip? It says it is safe for parts other than metal but I wouldn't test that claim and didn't when I used it. I only soaked metal parts.

Maybe float level got screwed up. I'd check that before putting bowl on, and check again using clear tube from drain nipple, if it has nipple.

What year, model?
Any mod or aftermarket parts that affects engine performance?
Original owner?
Did it ever run right before?

When carb is badly contaminated/cogged, spray cleaning won't do it. It needs mechanical cleaning.

this is a stock 1994 bayou 400.I just bought the bike from a guy I know it was running when he had it,it had been setting for few months when I got it..I took carb apart again checked cleaned again.check floats (17mm).got it running better still cough some at idle.noticed today that if I blow lightly into air vent hose it speeds up and smooths out.what causes this ? is there a leak some where?

thanks for replys.

It sounds like you have a typical too LEAN condition due to air leak some where in the carb or intake air system, or too lean carb setting - either way, too much air and not engough fuel.

While engine is idling, spray some carb cleaner or contact/brake cleaner around the carbe and air intake duct/system to see if the idle rpm would increase.
If it does, you have a leak.
If it doesn't, you need to check/adjust your carb setting to the factory original setting - jets, air screws, etc.

If the carb setting is still 100% factory setting and no one messed with it, I would not change/adjust anything, but replace them (jets are cheap) in case they are plugged and your cleaning didn't work...

It has been running at idle for 2 hours purrin like a kitten. push the throttle and it starts coughin and backfiring.
I replaced all the jets with the rebuild kit.I set the air adjustment as the manual says (2 turns).I have tried to adjust some while running but not any difference.I sprayed some berrymans around intake while running Friday,no change.I am going to try to check fuel level with clear plastic line tomorrow.
last Wednesday I was riding this thing running wide open last week rangreat just would not idle.so I cleaned carb put in kit.should of just left it I guess, but it had set a while so figured it was gummed up some...

thanks for help.

if it idles fine but won't rev up and just bogs down, your main jet is partially plugged/clogged. you gotta get it CLEAN. every orifice. look down the center of the jet, you gotta see daylight through everything on that jet. then put it back together. you oughtta be fine.

when you pulled both jets out and held them in between your fingers, could you see daylight through all orifices and down the center of each jet?
