Engine Cases - Can or Should I mix them?
#1
OK, so the latest dilemma I am having is with the cases.
I got two motors, and one has a bad left hand side, and the other has a bad right hand side.
On the original motor, I found a crack on one of the internal bearing races, and on the other, it has the typical broken case at the shift rod.
Can I use the other 2 good halves to give me one good case?
I read this shouldn't be done, but has anyone done it?

I haven't done it and I don't think you would be able to get away with it. It's my understanding these cases are gang machined and matched up at the factory. The bearing clearances would be all over the board.
But then again you could try and see if anything binds up or what have you. I've seen a lot of things that should not be done at the race track and I have seen a bunch of times they get away with it.
