650 V TWIN UPDATE FROM 2-21-01
#11
I say if you even consider another ride than go buy it. That will just leave one more 650 for others not to have to wait on.
I know when it does come out and the first time someone has to adjust the air pressure in the tires all were going to hear is how much of a piece of junk it is.
If your not a Kawa fan, please save us the agony of complaints sure to come and buy the other quad your eyeballing instead.

Swen... dude, it seems you are suffering from a bad case of money burning a hole in your pocket. Just take a deep breath and consider your options. If you want the Kawi then wait, if you want a new Grizzly then I imagine you will have to wait on that also. I don't keep up on the 4x4's so I don't know if Yamaha is releasing a new quad but if they are, would it be a '02 model? Is this new Grizzly comparable to the Kawi?

oh, i am definately waiting for the kawi, i have just been getting impatient, beside the motor i like the other things that will make it different, the brakes, lower gas tank, higher airfilter, lighter, i didnt think people would get on me if said i was getting impatient, i say i am waiting but not all summer though, kawi made a big splash by announcing this then people are waiting and waiting, maybe i'll just get a little sport quad in the meantime while i am waiting for my prairie

Sorry SWEN At the beginning of this topic I was only hoping someone from Kawasaki would see this and Say hey lets quit Bull S__TING the people and get a confirmed date... I have not the slightest bit of a notion of giving up on this new Machine I've waited to long like since who ever it was made the first 500 machine 4 years. I knew Kawasaki could do it I just didn't know how long it would take. So if I've gotten you into some trouble Really Sorry

My guess is that there having production or durability problems. when they introduced the 650 they should have had most of the "bugs" out then, and that was back in November. it is the same weight as the praie400 but has the bigger engine and more features,so something has to be cut.
i think the delay in the kawie650 is the reason we havent seen the sp700 yet.

I'm sure that several other manufacturers will have bigger engines than the 650 in their sport/utility quads shortly after the Kawi is released, but of all the things I've read about it, maybe the most impressive (aside from how well the locking front-end works) is that it is supposed to have the lowest center of gravity of any utility quad. Apparently it is really hard to tip. That is a really useful feature, so the other makes may have to come up with more than just a bigger engine to really outdo it. My 400 Prairie is a very good machine, but the 650 has just about all the things that I wish mine had. If something is wrong, I hope they do delay it's release until they get it "right", but even though I can't buy one right away, I can hardly wait either!

Sorry ledebuhr1 ... but I do not follow... What does the delay of the Kawasaki VTWIN 650 have to do with the release of information or the release of the SP700? My hunch is there is no SP 700 out there to release. This 650 will sell like hot cakes if it's the first to hit the market so it would be to polaris advantage to be the first and try to blow Kawasaki out of the water. Or would it be a lack of confidence on polaris part that this sp700 would even come close to matching the 650. Please explain your theory

I have seen the new 650 Kawasaki. Kawasaki brought one to an event out in Clearfield Pa. last fall. I was very impressed with the design and engineering aspects of the new machine. I was not impressed with the overall look of the quad. Many things looked cheesy and cheap. I would imagine this was because of a rush to get them out to the clubs for input from actual riders. everyone seemed impressed, Definitley lots of inovation. The one thing I was most concerned with was their design for locking up the belt drive for comppresion braking. The guy showing the quad for Kawi. explained it this way there is a solenoid ellectronically controled at the throttle when you release the throttle the solenoid is activated and forces the outside shive of the clutch to stay in contact with the belt. If you could have seen where the solenoid was mounted you would have reliability questions also. it was mounted on the outside of the motor, on the right side of the quad. It was low on the bike and was kind of flimsy looking. I own a Grizzly and there are quite a few things I dont like about it ( top heavy, Rough ride etc etc.) but the drive system with the sprag clutch is fantastic and beleive me with 2800 hard miles on it , the setup is bulletproof. P.S. I dont throw that term around loosely. I would venture a guess that if anything is holding up the delivery of this machine. It would be the engine braking clutch fiasco Kawasaki designed. But you can bet your *** that when it does show up it will be rock solid ..
Hope everyone gets there new toy before too long, I personaly am waiting for the 2002 Grizzly
