Bayou 300 4x4 or King Quad ?
#1
I know.....this is the Kawi forum, so it will lean toward the Bayou, but I had to ask somewhere.
Time to trade the Scrambler in. I don't ride it, and I need to get something for my son. The dealer who REALLY wants the Scrambler, (already has a buyer) has Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha. I'm leaning toward the King Quad, because of the 2/4WD option, and the independent rear suspension. One thing I don't like is that I've heard the front end is light because the engine is set back. Not a problem with the Kawi.
Do any of you have any experience with both quads, if not, how about the Bayou 4x4 ? Tell me what you think about it.
Thank you,
Dave

I have 0r did own a 300 Bayou up until about 6 weeks ago and the only reason I sold the 300 was to buy the 650 V twin I also have a 400 Bayou. Believe me there Is absolutely nothing wrong with the 300 I liked it better than the 400. I was only going to sell one and the 300 went first it was a 95 And I had owned it since it was new and never had any problems whatsoever great atv and believe me my sons had put it thru the paces and they ride motorcycles Supercross Pro class

Hey there.... Its a tuff choice, they are both nice, but i say go for the bayou, i looked at a king quad instead of buying a bayou, but i chose the bayou because it is alot quicker and more nimble. it can go anywhere you want it too, fall almost any other machine, it can pull lots, and it has a really nice ride. it is really fun to drive, lots of power for a 300, its not sluggish like the king quad. the front end on the bayou is nice and heavy, unlike the king quad, i have climbed some awesome steep hills with no problem..... You wont be dissipointed trust, me Enjoy and go for the bayou....your son will love it

I hunt with a couple guys that have the Bayou 300 4x4 and they swear by them. From what they've told me the machines have so far been bullet proof and both early 90's models. From my experence with Kawasaki, my machine has been absolutely great and it is a '89.

I don't want something with a monoshock swingarm. That's why I haven't considered Yamaha. The Bayou and King both have at least semi independant rear suspension.

I have owned both of those models. The Bayou was the more fun to ride, faster, more nimble. The KQ would pull better, had 2wd/4wd. The Hi/low on the Bayou is more than adequate for just about every type of riding. The KQ matches and beats the Bayou in the gear selection category though. It can be daunting for the unexperienced. The KQ has a tendency to have the front drive shaft seal go out if you don't let the engine cool down after long hi speed rides, such as they are on the KQ. Overall, either is a good choice. Right now one of the local Kawi dealers have the 2001 Bayou 4X4 on sale for 3995. So the dealers everywhere it seems are dealing on just about everything except honda's
