Default need help with 1989 mojave 250

hello and thanks ahead of time , i bought this bike needed tlc ,went over it it ran but would not start cold with a shot of startiing fluid .then after warmed up idled high.i rode it around and couldnt get past half throttle . the preivous owner claimed he put in it a new piston and rings and changed out cam shafts that were worn .so i ordered a rebuild kit for the carb replaced everything in the kit and cleaned out everything .and a new petcock also to be on the safe side .started the same way but i noticed fuel spitting out the back of the carb when i reached the half way point ,ok im thinking timeing is off from cam change .btw way i ahve been a car and truck mechnic for the better of 25 years .and this baffles me .maybe to simple for me or im over thinking it .so i removed the valve cover and timeing sight cover lined eveything up and its 180 out , no problem i put it where it needed to be .reassembled and try to start it ,a little sputter . no start . took apart and tryed again .nothing . watched several video and down loaded manual nothing .smh .went and got a compression tester , got a ridiculous low number that it should have never ran .bent valves? ordered valve and just put them in reset the timeing and adjust the valves .sputters a little on straight gas now , run a little better on starting fluid .but still nothing to brag about . and suggestions would be great .thanks
