Default 1996 buyou 300 putting clutch in help

So I reinstalled my new clutches. I bought a new drum, centrifugal and friction plates.
It's slipping worse than it was before.
So I took it all apart inspected everything. It all looks good.
The secondary where the friction plates sit are they supposed to be loose? When everything is put together I can slip all the disks about quarter inch back and forth in the basket. Is that normal?
Thanks for the help

No the plates are held together by the four springs. Have you put the same number of plates back as you took out?
