I'm desperate here, the snow is falling and I need to plow. I've got a 1990 Bayou 300 4x4, it was starting and running fine a few days ago... now nothing.
The battery is fine. I turn the key and get the neutral light, headlights, and winch all working. Gas valve is on, tank is full. I push the engine start button, and nothing. No noise, no click, no turnover, nothing. I've check the engine shutoff switch, it's in the correct position. I flip the compression valve and try pull starting, does even come close to starting... I know there's a neutral relay fuse which is still working "light comes on, and I hear clicking when I unhook and reattach". Is there another fuse I might have blown? Some other obvious problem I'm missing?
Could be a wire in that neutral relay circuit, or the button gone bad, or the starter solenoid. I don't have the wiring diagram for the Bayou, but have for the Lakota, and the two will be fairly similar.
The set up is downright weird, as black is positive in one part of the circuit and negative in another but check if you have negative all the time to one thin solenoid wire and positive to the other when you press the button. If you have, it looks like a faulty solenoid. If you haven't, work back through the circuit to find out why.
