New to me 2005 Bayou
#1
Morning all,
Never owned a 4 wheeler before, wife picked up two atv's and a trailer for a steal on craigslist as a present. The Bayou had a exhaust bolt broken off in the head. Got that drilled out and a new one in its place. Found out I was missing the gasket and the inserts that went with the exhaust head pipe and the collar. Got it all tightened down, collar sits flush with the head but the head pipe still moves around slightly. Is that normal?
Just put a new carb on it since I can't get it to start. Any kits or tutorials out there on rebuilding the head ? As I think thats the next step. If anyone has any ideas on what to check to get it to crank please let me know. It's got a new battery, fresh gas, new carb on it. Spark seems ok.
Thanks,
Andrew

Clymer manual and new wiring harness on the way. Forgot to mention already replaced wheel bearings, brakes, new tires.
Have all the parts for the exhaust as shown in the bikebandit exploded diagram still just flops around.

Don't know about Bayous, but KLF exhausts were tricky to get right. The two half round spacers could be put in backwards, and had to be fitted to the collar just right, or they jammed before the pipe was fully tight.

Has it run since you have owned it? How are you trying to start it? It is normal to have to choke the engine in order to start it, even if it is warm outside. Does the plug get wet and smell like gas? Is the carb new, or new to you? If you open the bowl drain tap (3mm allen wrench), can you get anything to come out? Maybe verify that the pilot screw is 1-1/2 turns out. Take the valve covers off, turn over the engine and make sure you don't have a stuck valve.
