Sorry but the only test I ever do is a resistance test between pos spade connector and the body of the regulator, if that isn't open circuit the reg is toast.
Far easier to check wires going to the reg on the bike. Connect a high wattage test lamp between pos and neg that come from battery, not a voltmeter, and check alternator wires are not earthed and all three (on a 3 wire stator) have the same resistance when any two wires are tested.
