What can cause this and how do I clean them. I ordered a carb kit which will replace some of the parts but not all so I'll need to clean and re-use some of these. Gumout/carb cleaner is childsplay when it comes to cutting the caked on crud off the float. Would a chem-Dip work better and anchor them so they submerge? Should I fully dissasemble the carbs and dip everything?
Back story. My brother recently gave me his Prairie 650 to get it out of his yard as he's selling his house. It has sat for 8-10 years in the same spot. He literally rode it hard and put it up wet. He never has been big on maintenance and was riding it one afternoon and said it just lost power and started smoking white smoke. He thought he blew a head gasket he rode it to this spot in his yard and it sat ever for at least 8 years.
I brought it home power washed it off, aired up the tires, Checked to make sure it had fluids, charged the battery and amazingly that old WalMart Battery took a charge.
Before I did much else I pulled the air cleaner to find an oily mess in there.
I pulled it over a handful of times to try and get some oil moving and then gave it a few squirts in each carb of starting fluid and hit the start button and it fired right to life and idled great until it burned off. I didn't push my luck much further.
I have read that if these get a stuck choke it can cause this white smoke and loss of power symptom that started this all. I am hopeful this is all that was wrong with it but will not know until I have completely gone through the fuel system and cleaned or replaced everything as it's skunky and nasty.
NASTY!!! The gas in the tank was just about as bad it was red and super nasty.
Oily dirty mess inside the airbox
What can break this krud down? I have already removed the Jets & Float and they are soaking in carb cleaner but it's stuck on there
Also came with a QuadBoss Canoe & Kayak rack and QuadBoss Box
Not bad for a free ATV
He parked it and let it rot with 600miles and 187 hours on it
