Default 650 Prairie Fuel Pump

2003 Prairie 650 and about a year ago my son was riding it and he kind of buried the nose of it at the bottom of a steep hill (no mud/water) and came to an abrupt stop. The 650 kept running but was cutting out like it was running on one cylinder and son drove it back to the shop and it died and wouldn't start. A couple of days later I tried starting it and it would start but again acted like firing on one cylinder. I have another ATV and motorcycle so I pushed it back in my shop and forgot about it until a couple of days ago.

Pulled engine/body covers off to have better access and put a new battery in....added about a gallon of gas....shot a little either in carbs and she fired right up for about 2 seconds and then died....then added a little gas to each carb and would fire right up but die. When key was on I could not hear/feel the fuel pump working.

Started at carbs pulling hoses off and not a trace of fuel in lines all the way to the tank so I pulled tank and then removed the pump. Fuel in tank looked good and didn't see any gunk/debris in tank and pump/screen looked fairly clean also. I put the pump in a jar of alcohol, wired it direct to battery and it would run but not pump anything. I also hooked the pump back up to the wiring harness and turned the key on and pump would run for about 5 seconds and shut off. Is this action normal unless engine is running?

Is the small hole in the bottom of the pump the only place for fuel to enter pump and go to carbs? There is definately gunk in the hole restricting fuel input. Can pump be cleaned or just get a new one on fleabay?
