650 Prairie

Who will be the winner?
Heck, that fat lady hasn't even begun to warm up yet, let alone sing.
Will the Kawasaki 650 turn out to be a gas hog?
Is the Kawasaki the new king of the tire turners in the mud bogs?
Will the 650 V-twin keep up on the fast trails?
Will the 700 Twin Polaris weigh too much?
Will the Sportsman 500 owners defect or keep their present machines?
Will Arctic Cat introduce a 500CC IRS Screamer?
Will Suzuki stretch their wheelbase, improve their ride and introduce some performance?
Will the Grizzly deliver, speed, comfort and dependability?
Will Honda ever wake up and smell the coffee?
What a great year to be an atver!

Odin, that "never had it never will" comment was clearly your ignorance and prejudice showing through. The fact of the matter is that I can go buy a 650 TODAY whereas your highly touted Polaris 700 (or whatever you claim it is) is not available yet. Go compare what you can get from Polaris RIGHT NOW to what you can get from Kawasaki RIGHT NOW and it isn't even close.
If you were really anybody important at Polaris you would have signed a non-disclosure agreement that would be keeping you from flapping your gums.
All I see from you is blah, blah, blah.

Ignorant? About quads? I've forgotten more then you ever know. Polaris don't mean $hit to me. I'll buy what is best at the time. I have no brand loyalty what so ever. When I bought my HO 9 months ago it was top dog. Until somebody knocks it of the hill it is still number one.
I have no doubt that the current Kawasaki is faster than an HO but it will never ride like mine. I also know the new Yamaha will blow my doors off. So? Mines paid for. I can wait another year till all the nagging problems have benn worked out on all new quads.
BTW the Kawasaki top speeds I have been reading about have been slow. In this very thread I saw a 62 mph top speed. My HO does 61.5 on a GPS. Not bad for a quad with 2,900 miles on it already.

To be realistic how fast does a utility quad really need to go? My new Prairie will run just over 60mph but that is not nearly as impressive to me as how quickly it gets there. I've already tackled hills on it that I would not even dream of on any of my other quads because of the extremely short take-off area before the hill. Did any of you see the issue in of the atv mag having the most recent shoot-out among all the 500cc auto atvs (I'll have to check which mag and month it was, I don't recall it). Any way, they commented on how exaggerated the top speeds were on all ATV's they did multiple runs in multiple directions using a calibrated radar gun. The speed differences among the five atvs (including the griz & Polaris 500ho) were 4mph. The fastest was the Polaris HO 500 at 54mph and the Griz was at 53mph and if memory serves me correctly the slowest was the Suzuki Quadmaster at 50mph. I know everyone will say these numbers are wrong but this is what an unbiased source concluded. But on the other hand these top speed were measured after a specific length and it was not after holding it wide open for six miles. Once again, going from memory I believe they chose the Honda Rubicon (no irs & not the fastest) as the winner of the shootout.
