650 Prairie

It went Polaris HO 60 and then the Ruby at 54 and then the Griz at 52, because I remeber them telling Griz owners not to right in because every Griz the mag has had went 52 no faster. I also timed quickness to 20, 30 and 40, the HO won all those too. I have no doubt that the Kawai will be the fastest, I can't see the Griz being that fast, it takes more power the IRS because of I more turn in the driveline and the thing is probably geared wrong for bigger tires. Every Yamaha I've owned barely turned 26inch tires/locker of course. I think the power, mostly the torque of the v-twin motor is going to be a hot seller.

I Have Finally had a chance to day to ride the 650 and i must say i cant think of any one building any thing better. this thing is AWESOME!! Chess-Flating Accerlation i am probbaly going to get one Probbaly the best machine i ever rode. I think that the Mighty 660 Grizz you know the one with ATV-ing’s biggest, hardest-hitting, highest-revving engine — 660cc of liquid-cooled, 5-valve muscle And i copyed this from yamaha.Folks, if you thought the Grizzly™ had the competition running scared before, well, they’re absolutely petrified now. Because there’s a brand-new Bear in town: the all-new-from-the-mud-up Grizzly 660 Automatic 4x4. we will see about that!!
Sincerly,

Trailblazer is spot on correct. He who spends the most $$$ gets the most coverage. I feel I can make this observation un-biasly because in the last five years I have owned four different ATV's from three different manufacturers. I am as brand dis-loyal as they come, I am the same way with my vehicles, I buy what I feel is the best product for me and my money at the time.
When I purchased my Prairie 650, it became the first Kawasaki I've ever owned and so far it's one heck of a machine. I also knew that Kaw had been working on this thing for over three years and had purpose built an engine from the ground up for a high performance Util/Sport atv. I also know that Kaw went to ATV events for a few years before they even started just to find out what people wanted and then they started designing. Unfortunate for Kawasaki most atv buyers are not like me and are sometimes brand loyal to the point of stupidity. I also knew that when Kawasaki released their Prairie 650 that several other manufactures would rush out a large displacement atv (except maybe Honda) just to rival the Prairie and their only goal will be to make some thing 3mph faster because that's what sticks into peoples heads. I went and looked at the new Griz and I saw bad ergonomics (even before the magazine article), I saw welds on the IRS that look like they'll break after the first hard jump, and now there saying you can't go through a mud puddle with it, and if you ride in and out of the rivers/sand like we do I bet that rear brake will be a joke you'll be replacing those pads weekly.
The bottom line they rushed something into production and it will take them two or three years to get it right and I bet Polaris does the same thing.

As is usually the case, far too many people put too much emphasis on what other's think when they buy a quad / bike / car / truck. Why is it important to you if someone else buys something different? Do you see it as some kind of attack on you personal choice if someone chooses to buy a quad other than the one you bought? You buy what is best for you. If the big magazine (or some goof down the street that has the latest machine..but can't right worth %&$#) doesn't give the Prairie the glowing report that you thinks it deserves....so what? Go for a ride and have a good time. Ride safe.

Jeffg, your absolutely correct I just get excited when people are so blindly loyal to something they some times make bad decisions. I work in the technology field and see this very often. I also see the old "if it's newer and cost more it must be better" oh well, I guess this is the kind of attitude that keeps our economy moving forward.

I don't know what shootout that one guy was getting speeds for, but they are different in that last Automatic Shootout that ATV Magazine had. The Griz was at 52 along with the Bombardier. The HO was at 54, the Rubi at 50, the AC at 48, and the Suzuki at 46.
In Acceleration, the Rubi was just a hair slower than the HO, mainly because there is no lag time during takeoff, because there is no belt to catch. Still, both honda and Polaris were quite a bit quicker than the old Griz. The new one is going to be a different story, but then so will the new Polaris when it comes out. Hard to compare apples to oranges. Kind of like when the Sportsman first came out. What was there to compare it to? Bayou 400? Kodiak 400? Foreman 400? It would literally smoke anything other than a Sportsman 400L.
There is one guy here who has already got his 660 Griz. He got 40 miles on it, and then cut loose. Speedometer showed 69mph, and his GPS showed 67, and that is flat out moving!
