What do they do when you take your ATV in for the First service? I am five hours away from it, and they want $200 to do it. If it's only an oil change than I can do that myself! that seems a bit rediculous to me to charge that much.

first service usually includes

oil change
new spark plug
adjust the valves
new fuel filter
check all fluids to ensure at proper level
and an overall check of the machine for anything that may have loosened or what not

the first service on our prairie's was around $150. i would definately call around to another dealer

You have to take it to a dealer for the first service. Even if you are capable of doing it. If you have a motor problem and a kawasaki tech did not perform the first service they will try to blame the problem on that, or say the tech would have noticed the problem sooner and corrected it then.
Just an excuse to get the dealer some high priced work. Many of the dealers probably don't do anything more than change the oil.

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE YOUR ATV, MOTORCYCLE OR AUTOMOBILE TO ANY DEALER FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO SCARE YOU INTO DOING SO. This battle was fought and won in federal courts some time ago by consumer groups. All you need do is keep written records of the work having been done at the recommended intervals.

Any dealer who tells you otherwise should be reported to your local Better Business Bureau. You can bet that such tactics are just one of their many unethical practices.

My dealer charges $105.00. Ask for your old spark pug back when you pick it up so you can have a backup. They will look at you funny, then hand you a brand new one in the box because the probably didn't change the original in the first place. And if they did it's in a garbage can in the back.
I would get this service done for the valve adjustment and fluid change. I had the initial service done after 10 hours on my 400 4x4 prarie, then took it in to get the valves adjusted two days ago at 2600+ miles. When I picked it up today they said the valves were spot on. @500 some -odd miles later and they are still on- gotta love it!
P.s. it was only $52.00 for the valve adjustment.
