KAPS transmission and belt drive
#1
I am thinking of getting a praire 650 but I am worried about the belt drive system. I had a praire 400 4X4. The belt wore out on me within the first six months of use. Three months later the whole clutching system had to be replaced. I didn't ride in mudd a lot but I did ride in the mountions of North Carolina a good bit. Kawasaki was good about the warranty work. I want to see if anyone else has had trouble with it. Thanks.

Stevedog,
I had the 300 and burnt up my first belt in no time. But with the new belt I ran the crud out of it and had no problems. I rode the mud hard as well as deep water and not once did I get any water or mud in the trans. I now have a 650 and though I only have about 12 hours on it I would say that it is the best machine I have ever riddin. I think if the KAPS transmission can make it through the Mississippi mud it shouldn't have any issues for you. This 650 has almost no hesitation unlike the 300 I had before. I think it is the best choice I could make. GO for it!

I've only got about 16 hours on my 650, but it feels like it has alot tighter belt drive than the 400 has. I run my Kawi in the breaks of the Hells Canyon and don't seem to have any problems with either one of them, I do however, shift into low for any steep hill climbing.
