Discovered today that when I switch from 2wd to 4wd, my 650 does not shift into 4wd until after I have moved forward a couple of feet or more as indicated on the instrument panel and steering feel. However, switching from 4wd to 2wd, the change is almost immediate as indicated by the instrument panel and a short whirring sound. Have any of you experienced this or have an explanation for this possible abnormally.

Mine does the same thing. I am pretty sure this is normal. In order to go into 4 wheel drive the front wheels must actually turn a little. So be sure to switch to 4x4 BEFORE you get stuck.

I don't think this is a problem. When the servo tries to push the "locking plunger", or whatever it is called, the front shaft and front differential engagement may not be in the proper position in relation to each other. I think the servo pauses then retries and repeats this cycle until it achieves engagement. It may not be able to do this if you are stopped. I have stopped before and needed to engage 4wd to back-up and it would not engage until I let it roll slightly and moved the bars back and forth. To disengage from 4wd, all it has to do is to withdraw this "plunger"....

I've heard that you're not supposed to engage 4wd while the machine is moving. What is the general concensus on this?

We had the Factory Truck at one of our races and they told me that you can switch while you or moving as long as you are under 18 mph. I have done this for the last 40 hours of riding without any problems.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the input. It appears that I should read the manual again.
