I'm putting new shoes on the back of my Mojave. Is there that big a difference between the .125, .160, and .190 thickness rims? I have a set of Sand Skates mounted on aluminums but I cant find anywhere that states what size they are on the rim. I do mostly dune and some easy desert riding, do I really need a .190 rim? I'd like to save as much weight as possible but I dont want rims to be bending all the time either, what do you think? I dont jump big, 5' at the highest and maybe 15-20' long at the most. I'm also not known for running over big rocks.

I also had a question about the offset. I want to make the quad a little wider, what offset could I use that would be acceptable but still wider, I dont want to put undo strain on the parts but I'm sure it can be made a bit wider still with a different offset.

For the riding you describe you might get by with the 160 rims. Do not get the 125's, they will bend if you breath on them too hard. I would still get the 190's, you will be glad you did. As for offset, you dont have to worry about straining parts on the rear. you can get any offset you like and the bike will not care. The more a rim is offset however the easier the rim itself will be to bend or egg shape. You could get a big offset and use the 190's and never have to worry. What i did to get more offset was to go to a wider rim. Most companies will sell you an 8 inch wide rim for the rear to put 11 inch wide tires on. I went with a 9 inch rim and had the extra inch offset to the outside. This will make the rear wider and the tire fit better too. I would call James Lucky ATV products, they seem to know more about available rims than the other places that only know replacement sizes. The best thing is to get a Douglas catalogue and see what all is available.

I just looked on James Lucky web site www.jlatvproducts.com at their listing on wheels. The 10x8 only comes in 3+5 thats 3 in and 5 out. The 10x9 comes in 4+5 or 3+6. The 3+6 will make you 1 inch wider in the rear if the same size tire is used. You rims will be two inches wider but the tire will split the difference since the inside offset is the same for both size wheels.
