i bought my wife a used 2000 bayou 220 with 12 hours on it 6 months ago. The machine was on original oil and filter. i've changed oil few times and probabaly have somewhere around 50 hours on it. I added a k+n filter and outerwear and it still seem to run ok (not leaning out). lately though i've noticed a big lag when throttle punched and sometimes it quits. I believe maybe valves need adjustment(do you agree?). I can get to exhaust valve no trouble but i am curious how to get to valve cover and to check on rear side of the head. the frame seems to cover the whole thing up. if anyone has a manual and can scan me a copy of the pages for valve adjustments or give advice i'd appreciate it. I'd hate to have to pay the dealer to do it.

QUESTION---does it do that when you punch the gas from a dead stop?

from a dead stop and punch the gas it >>>dies..will restart right up

if pin the throttle and then let up and pin it again it will hesitate and then go.

don't worry about it then, all bayou 220's do that. I was worried when mine did it too, but mine does it, my neighbor's does it, and my freind's does it too. It's probably some safety thing inside of the carb incase someone slams on the gas on "accident".

I had a bayou 220 for several years and sold it recently. Mine was a 99 and it had the same problem. It got worse when I added the k&n filter. I was determined to fix it and finally did with a jet kit. Changed to the suggested jets and new needle. Then kept richening up the needle till it ran right. From what I remember it was on the last groove before the dead spot went away. I am not saying it will fix yours but mine got better.

thanks for all the help...

it's my wife's ride so i guess i won't worry about it..she's riding it ok...maybe i'll try with the stock filter back on..she doesn't ride it enough to worry with re-jetting and all that...

anyone want to buy a slightly used k+n filter, if going back to stock solves this problem?
