I'm just getting my quadracer together (purchased a good project quad a few weeks back), I cant wait to try out the 2 strokes. This will be a huge change over the Mojave I'm sure, it will be nice to learn to ride something very different. I personally would take the 250 2 stroke over any of those quads too, I like a light nimble bike (the Mojave is getting there, I've shaved about 26lbs so far) with a lot of power.

Check out this sight to learn A LOT about Tecate-4's.

As far as the "who's fastest" question, my response is "does it really matter?" How often does anyone have the opportunity to ride their quad in top gear WFO? You might be able to do it at your favorite dune area, provided there's a long enough, flat enough area, but what's the point? Just trying to smoke your engine?

I have 2 Tecate-4's, and they're a blast to ride. Maybe they didn't handle as good as the Honda's, but I never liked how twitchy hondas were anyway. As far as the Raptor comparison, let's stick to comparing apples to apples (Green ones in this case!) The Raptor is a great machine, but it's still heavy and doesn't have the type of power that makes it the most fun to ride in the dunes. If I was doing mostly trails and technical hill climbs and such, I choose a Raptor. But for flattracking and dunes, it's hard to beat the light weight and snappiness of a good 2-stroke. The Tecate-4's were known for their potent motors, and a claimed 328lb. dry weight. Find a modern quad that can claim that low of a weight (with something other than an 80cc motor in it!) I'm still hoping and wishing that SOMEBODY (Kawi? Hello?) would take the risk of producing a new, 2-stroke race machine like the old Tecate's and 250R's. With the way 2-stroke SX and MX bikes are still selling, what's there to lose? There's still a series for quads, and if the manufacturers would commit to building "race-ready" machines, it would only fuel a new interest in it for up and coming riders and privateers.

DSONYX99, your buddy is baked. The Tecate came 'ONLY' as a 250cc 3-wheeler ('84-'86) and a 250cc 4-wheeler ('87-'88). The only 500cc 2-stroke quad was the Scuzuki (whatta tank!). It was fast, but it was BIG!

If everything happens and nothing goes right , I'm going to attempt putting a KX500 motor in my '87 Tecate-4. There's gonna be a fair amount of fabrication involved, plus trying to dampen the vibration to avoid having the frame ripped apart, but I think it would be one HECK of a ride when it's all together. I've never been a fan of big-bore kits, especially since I don't want to risk trashing a good motor (since they're not exactly plentiful any more!), so I think the 500 is a viable option. Plus, I end up with a spare motor for my '88.

Here is a really nice pic of user JMONEY45's Tecate 4. I didnt ask him to use it but I dont think he'll mind somebody else drooling over it, lol. If the ones you saw looked similar to this than that is what you were seeing.

The 3 fastest quads out right now are, the Cannondale, then the Raptor and the DS650, after that is the Banshee.
The Cannondale does 72 mph, the Raptor does 71 and so does the DS and the Banshee is just under thoes two.

Whaley01,
The A-arms were on the quad when I purchased it, and I've had no luck in determining who they're made by, or if anybody still makes them for the Tecate-4.
