gas mileage is surely not the strong point of the 650 or the 660 yamaha!---about 60 to 70 miles is all you will obtain per tank.but one things for sure----its the most exciting 60 to 70 miles you will find in a utility 4wd atv! gas is cheap in 4-wheeler terms. my chevy truck is another story. gas seems to be coming down a good bit lately in my part of the country. about $1.08 per gallon.

WOW thats only 12-15mpg I guess I will have to get an extra tank when I take her camping. My SP500HO got about 20 I was hoping sheding 100 pounds the 650 would be about the same. The 650 also has a smaller tank dam the luck.

It all depends how strong thumb you've got! I was riding on a mountain trail with my buddy on another 650 one day, and I managed to get about 23 mpg and he got only 9 mpg. We were able to calculate this because we filled up before and after the riding together. I was always behind him and was in 2WD for the most of time. My buddy was always at WOT and 4WD all the time. So, theoretically, I could have got about 23x4.5=103.5 miles per tank and he got only 9x4.5=40.5 miles per tank. By the way, someone told me that the actual size of 650 gas tank is slightly larger (4.8-5.0? gal) than what the owner's manual says (4.5 gal). But I haven't verified yet.

So it sounds like just light trail riding (sight seeing) 20+ is possible. Do any of you have 1 of those exta gas rack tanks?

WENT ON A LONG RIDE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, RODE 71 MILES AND DIDN'T RUN OUT. RESERVE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AT 62 MILES. ALL THE OTHER'S HIT RESERVE TO. ARTIC CAT 400, THE RUBICON'S AND THE RAPTOR RAN OUT AT THE TRUCKS, HAD TO CHOKE IT TO GET IT LOADED. THE ONLY ONE THAT DIDN'T HIT RESERVE WAS THE FOREMAN 450. YOU SHOULD'NT NEED SYNTHETIC UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUN LONGER ON OIL CHANGES.

On long rides I carry extra gas. I get about 60 miles before the fuel light flashes. I found out that there is almost a gallon of gas left when the guage has one bar left. My son's Recon goes for months on one tank.

wow, why do quads get so friggin low gas mileage? That's the gas mileage that a Chevy 350 would get, and that is ahuge difference, 650 cc's compared to 5700. How can these quads use so much gas? The motors are tiny!
